how to convert photos from RAW to JPEG
I recently was a photographer for a family event over the weekend. I usually shoot in RAW because it contains more information for me more to post-process the photo later. This is a good article that discusses the benefits of shooting in RAW: http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=430215&seqNum=3
Now that I've uploaded the photos and combined them with other photos from the event, I realize I should have shot in JPEG. Mainly for the reason being that maybe not everyone has Photoshop. That's probabaly the biggest catch regarding shooting in RAW - you have to have Photoshop or any photo processing program to open the file and view it. I could have also opted to shoot in RAW + JPEG fine on my camera but that takes up too much memory and I did not want to risk running out of memory space during the event.
After much searching, I finally figured out how to convert the RAW photos into JPEG on my Macbook Pro. My goal was to not download a program to do this conversion. I use iPhoto to organize and transfer my photos. I found you can "Export" the photos and indicate them to be current, JPEG, TIFF, or PNG. Make sure to select the maximum quality option. Also, I suggest that you create a folder on your desktop to send the photos to for easy access. I've taken screen shots and attached them below.
Hope this helps!
